Internships
LOOKING FOR MINISTRY EXPERIENCE WITHIN A LOCAL BODY OF BELIEVERS?
Dear Friend,
Thank you for inquiring about Green Ridge Baptist Church’s internship program. As a church, we are committed to spending our lives responding to God’s Word. Therefore we seek lives characterized by public and private obedience, committed to sound teaching and living, devoted to seeing Christ formed in each other and dedicated to the task of sharing Christ with a lost world. We seek—by His grace—to be faithful to this task and to glorify Him each step along the way.
At GRBC, we have the privilege of equipping believers to faithfully serve God as he builds his Kingdom in and through the local church. But we understand that we also have a responsibility and opportunity to serve churches other than our own. The internship program at GRBC affords us the occasion to focus time, attention, and resources on the training of future shepherds of Christ’s church.
The purpose of the GRBC internship program is not to build and staff ministries within our own church. Rather, we seek to provide an opportunity for future pastors and church leaders to reflect on the nature of the church and pastoral ministry. As they observe a local church in practice and reflect on both the Scriptures and the writings of pastors and theologians who have thought carefully about the nature and calling of Christ’s bride, interns are able to consider what a healthy, biblical church looks like and their role within it as shepherd.
Life at a growing church, under a sovereign God, is never predictable, and the same can be said of a GRBC internship. However, what is predictable and unswerving is our commitment to each intern growing in his understanding of the sufficiency of Scripture and the priority of the local church in God’s redemptive purposes for the world. Therefore, every intern can expect to gain a practical understanding of the role of God’s Word in preaching and teaching, a Biblical view of church membership and a careful look at a covenanted congregational community.
Acceptance into and/or completion of the program in no way implies our affirmation of your sense of call, and interns should not expect future employment at GRBC.
If an internship at GRBC sounds of interest to you as a future pastor or church leader, please do not hesitate to contact us. Wherever the Lord leads you to serve, it is our prayer that He would be using all of us to prepare His bride for the return of the Bridegroom.
Sincerely,
The Pastoral Staff

First-Hand Experience
Nothing fancy happens in the Green Ridge Baptist Church internship program. We simply want to unveil regular, day-to-day ministerial life and provide a grid for doing the work of ministry. In addition to observing church life today, GRBC interns will spend much of their time engaging in conversation with our pastoral staff about the difficulties of ministry and the goodness of God.
Through these conversations and their interaction with our church’s life, interns will discover that we believe God’s church is the main sounding board of the gospel, but a sounding board that’s largely ignored in Christian circles today. Not only that, they will consider what it means to build a church, not according to the latest cultural waves or “whatever works,” but according to all that the Bible says about our life together as the local church. Praise God that His Word is not silent on matters of ecclesiology and pastoring.
Interns at GRBC will gain experience in:
- Building relationships
- Planning prayer gatherings
- Leading and teaching
- Doing administrative work
- Planning events and book studies
Guided Mentoring
Although we want our interns to experience all aspects of church life, we offer a primary focus in one the following areas:
Join in our pastors' weekly meetings preparing sermons, sharing needs within our ministries, and planning upcoming gatherings. Sit in on counseling sessions. See firsthand how pastors lead believers in church membership. See how pastoral ministry goes far beyond preaching in the pulpit.
Engage students in discipleship by leading studies, building relationships, and participating in student events. Join them at our Love the Valley outreaches. Participate in our seasonal retreats and camps. Our ministries include middle and high school students along with a separate college group. We believe young people are a vital part of the church, and we encourage their participation within our local body.
Minister to families by planning and leading children's programs. Grow their knowledge of God and His Word through Gospel-centered classes like Kingdom Club. Participate in organizing family events where children and parents can grow together.
We believe that the Bible speaks volumes about why we sing and what content our songs should be filled with. Come grow in the knowledge of how God's Word enlightens how we worship by participating in planning our worship gatherings. Experience leading band and choir rehearsals. Participate in the planning and leading of our prayer gatherings as well.
See firsthand how vital the role of our ministry assistants are to the life of our church. Receive one-to-one mentoring from our ministry assistant as you communicate with new and existing church members via phone and e-mail, create documents for church events, and keep records of ongoing ministry needs. Partner with the pastors in their weekly meeting by sharing needs within the church and helping fulfill those needs.

Testimonials
Pastors Greg, Brendan, and Frank love God deeply, and they would like nothing more than to see you grow as a disciple maker.
I grew a lot during the year that I interned here...through real-world ministry opportunities. This included teaching the youth, preparing questions for a prayer night, helping plan the Christmas worship gathering, and more. I was also welcomed into the pastors’ weekly meeting. Here, I had the pleasure of listening to them as they studied the upcoming Sunday’s Scripture and then discussed their personal ministries. I had meaningful conversations with all of the leadership. It was extremely clear that they wanted me to grow both as a leader and as an individual Christian, and they were willing to put in the time to see that happen!

Interns will be given the opportunity to be involved in as many areas of church life as possible, but their concentration will be in one specific area (pastoral, youth ministry, children/family ministry, worship ministry, or administration). We want our interns to be involved in our worship gatherings on Sundays, as well as other gatherings during the week. Our hope is that you will be able to observe the ins and outs of life at GRBC.
